FIHTM: Forum for International Health and Tropical Medicine is the global health interest group at Washington University School of Medicine. FIHTM exposes medical students to the field of global health through close interactions with faculty, spring break opportunities in Navajo Nation and South/Central America, SOAP grants for summer research and clinical experiences abroad for rising second years, international Jonathan Mann Fellowship opportunities for fourth year students, as well as an annual Global Health Symposium among other events connecting faculty and students. The opportunities allow for flexibility as FIHTM seeks to prepare students as creative and critical thinkers about the intricacies of global health.
The most recent version of the FIHTM Opportunities Database for SOAP and Jonathan Mann Fellowships is a useful resources for WashU medical students. Descriptions for two specific rotations are available: Dr. Mark Manary in Malawi and Dr. Joaquin Barnoya in Guatemala. If you have difficulty accessing the documents from here, the documents are also available by logging into WUMSWeb and going to MS1 >> FIHTM.
